What is the Nottingham Wildcats Arena?
The Nottingham WiIdcats Arena is a pupose built basketball facility on the eastside of Nottingham. Open in October 2001 by the then Sports Minister, Richard Caborn MP, it was part funded through major grants from Sport England, Nottingham City Council and WREN. The remaining finance was raised by the Charitable Trust which own and manage the Arena. The Trust is called the Jesse Boot Community Basketball and Sports Trust Ltd. The Board of Trustee consists of representatives from Arena Users and the Nottingham Wildcats Basketball Club; all of whom are volunteers themselves and receive no payment for their input. The Trust is a non-profit making organisation and although there are some paid staff at the Arena, voluntary input is important to its success.
In January 2008 an extension was built at the Arena specifically for mini-basketball, which took the number of FIBA regulation full size basketball courts at the Arena to three. What are the aims of the Trust?
- To promote and benefit the inhabitants of the East Area of the City of Nottingham and surrounding areas. In particular young persons, without distinction of sex, sexual orientation, race or political, religious or other opinions.
- By integrating these young people together, the local authorities, voluntary and other organisations can combine in a common effort to advance education, training and facilities. This is done in the interests of improving social welfare and quality of life via recreation and other leisure-time occupation.
- To establish and maintain a sports centre.
The provision of a leisure facility in the East Area of the City of Nottingham providing sport; recreational activities for the general public and vocational training for young people who have left school with few or no qualifications.
