Wildcats made it three wins from their last three games, with a convincing victory against Team Northumbria last weekend. The Wildcats are showing steady improvement game by game, which made Coach Burton quietly optimistic about a good team performance. However, the Wildcats got off to a dismal start with poor defence, rushed shots and silly fouls, giving Northumbria the early initiative. The Cats in fact trailed at the end the first quarter, but after a few quiet words by Coach Burton, they seemed to switch on; going into the halftime break leading by three.
The second half saw a much better team performance, with Wildcats playing the defensive style of pressure they have been exhibiting in previous games. Northumbria scored 10pts in the third quarter and just 6 in the last quarter, giving the Wildcats a comfortable 21pts victory.
Caitlin Flood again top scored, with new signing Abigail Wentworth again in the top three scorers. With an usually quiet night from Siobhan Prior, it opened a gap in the top three for Emma Pass and Jennie Rogers who both had 12pts. A special mention must go to Rheanne Bailey, whose defensive work ethic halted Northumbria’s top scorer Cat Carr.
Wildcats are again at home next week to Leeds with a win strengthening their push for the play offs
