Reaction: Wildcats retain WBBL Championship title.

Nottingham Wildcats have successfully defended the WBBL Championship title they won for the first time in 2015-16, after securing a hard fought 57-52 win against Team Northumbria to make it consecutive league crowns.

Backcourt star Siobhan Prior was immensely proud of her team’s efforts:

She said: “It was a close game and it was exciting, although we came out pretty slow in the first-half and ended up going down by 13.

“But the second-half was a different story when we started to play defence together and did what we usually do to help us to win. We also played much better offensively as a team as well.

“Winning back-to-back titles feels awesome and I got asked a question at the end about which one was more special, but they feel the same – just different.

“The first one was special because obviously it was our first and this one is special as it hasn’t been easy. At the start of the season we had some people who didn’t buy into what we were doing as a club. But the second half has been really great for us and we have grown as a team. The chemistry has been there and it is now like a family, as it should be, and as it has always been.

“I am really proud of everybody that we managed to win it. I would also like to say a massive thanks to Jess Hurd and Vicky Gray who weren’t with us, but played a massive part in this and it’s for them and everyone else connected with the club.

“It feels great and even more so, since we did it having raised £1,000 for Somali Women Rising! So, it has been an absolutely awesome day.”
