DOUBLE FOR JUNIOR WILDCATS.

Last night the Junior Wildcats, who play in the Central Venue Maid Marian League, completed the Cup and League double when they defeat St John Horton by 92pts to 18, in the John Wood Memorial Cup.  The league which is for U16 player has been held at the Wildcats Arena for a number of years and provides competitive basketball for players who do not wish to make a commitment to the National League.  Half of the Wildcats’ team was made up of U14 players, so they will be together for at least two more years.

The Junior Wildcats team draws players predominately from the Nottingham Academy School, which is one of the Wildcats’ partners, in developing basketball in the Greater Nottingham area and beyond.  The team this year have been coached by Wildcats’ Irish point guard Jessica Scannell, who unfortunately had to return home that morning, due to her flight being booked in September of last year.  Most of the players had not played competitive basketball before this season and it is a testament to their hard work and dedication that they have gone through the season unbeaten.

Jess has also undertaken her Level 2 EB Coach award during the season, under the tutorage of Wildcats’ Senior Coach Chris Prior, passing with flying colours.  Not a bad start to your coaching career, a Cup and League double in your first season.

The game as the score suggests was a pretty one sided affair, but to the credit of the St John Horton side they never gave up and fought hard to the end.  The Wildcats team showed them great respect by playing strongly throughout the game, rather than letting the match develop into a scrimmage.

Many thanks to the organisers of the MML, especially Jo Ford, who have again done a tremendous job ensuring the league has run, despite it sometimes being a thankless task.

Wow we as parents carnt thank Jess enough for all of her training, advice and guidance. The match was amazing seeing all the girls really work so hard and never giving up. So proud of the team for everything these amazing girls have done this season. Carnt thank Chris Prior for stepping in for our final match and to all the crowd for giving the girls the encouragement. Truely blessed to have been part of such a great club and league in our daughters first season. Well done Wildcats you rock.
