Busy Weekend for Wildcats’ Teams.

It is a busy weekend for the Wildcats Club with all five teams in action.  The 1st team are the only team at the Wildcats Arena and they take on Loughborough Student Riders on Sunday 2nd March, Tip-off 2-00pm. It is a must win game for both teams as Loughborough are in danger of being cut adrift in four place, whilst the Wildcats still have an outside chance of lifting the Championship.  The Wildcats do have injury problems ahead of the game, with Samantha Baranowski still suffering with the effects of a concussion she received over 5 weeks ago and Siobhan Prior yet to recover from a muscle injury to her leg.

The 2nd team are away to local rivals Mansfield Giants on Saturday 1st March, in what is their final game of a somewhat disappointing season.  The teams have met twice already this season, with the Giants winning in the cup and the Wildcats the league.  With neither side heading for the end of season play-offs, the game is all about local bragging rights, which can last until September, when the new season starts.

The Wildcats U16s play their fifth away game in a row when they travel to Birmingham on Saturday, to take on the City of Birmingham, in their penultimate match of the regular season.  In the corresponding fixture earlier in the season the Cats restricted the Birmingham outfit to just 3pts in the entire forty minutes, whilst knocking down 116 of their own.  It will be closer this time for two reasons: Birmingham has improved and Chloe Johnson (thumb) and Maud Mabhara (suspected fractured elbow) are both unavailable.

Meanwhile the U14s travel to Stockport, still in with a good chance of qualifying for the end of season play-offs.  In the home fixture the Wildcats were defeated by 4pts, 41 to 45, in a game they should never have lost.  The Wildcats have had their share of injuries this season, which was the case against Stockport, but they are now back to full strength and beginning to put together some impressive results.

Finally and by no means least, the Mini-Ballers take on Ilkeston Outlaws on Sunday just two games away from retaining the title.
